Vegemite: yay, nay or G'day?
Last night I had dinner with my group of friends from high school. Now, the hostess just happened to be hosting a couple of international students from college; one from North America, the other from Scandinavia. So, naturally neither of them had been subjected to the wondrous taste of Vegemite. Which was why we all collectively decided to butter it up on some bread and force feed a foreigner!...

Baby, give it up
‘Music helps’, I say. His eyes widen and he nods in avid agreement. Suddenly I imagine him in his apartment wailing hysterically to Air Supply, but am soon humbled with the reminder of my guilty pleasure in gyrating to KC & The Sunshine Band. It’s true: music is good therapy. Back home it is lonely. I switch the lights on and sit at the head of the table eating a bread roll...

Describing Winter
A blanket of white has crept o’er the heavens. Was the sky ever blue; did the sun ever shine?  Or were both of these visions, Naught but deceptions? Boldly, leafless trees stand against the ashen sky.  A solemn beauty could it be, But for the rawness which beckons from outside. Despite the lack of rain the humidity is rife. There are droplets on my bicycle; Toleration begins to...

There is no doubt in my mind
That the idea of evolution is crazier to me than the idea that a Higher Power (whom some people may call God) created the universe. Give me all the “scientific evidence” you like; to believe that every intricate detail ranging from a cat’s meow, a human’s mind or the seasons of the year evolved from one particle, or some swamp-dwelling reptilian is just incomprehensible to...

On "inkhorn" terms
One of my favourite pastimes involves staring at passers-by; just observing their habits and trying to form a picture of who they are. Yesterday I was having lunch with a friend in the city when we began a game of Guess-if-that-person-has-a-tattoo-or-not. (We are cool, I know.) Anyway, it was really surprising the number of seemingly conservative people who had tattoos, which made victory of the...

I got married today
Okay, so it was in Skyrim. But somehow getting hitched to dear Vilky via PS3 seemed to sate all of my real-life wedlock fantasies. Indeed, those ‘fantasies’ being: the futility of marriage and the monotony of waking up to the same face everyday. Although, he does bring in some nice coin.

I used to always eagerly await the end of Dutch classes. Not because I disliked them, but because afterwards I got to enjoy the beauty that is Amsterdam at eventide. The sky is misty and there’s an air of tranquility with the light reflected in the dancing water. Basically, I love it! Which is why I was a bit disgruntled when I overheard the following snippet of conversation: American...
